ASMR Artists, Shorting means basically that you borrow some stocks (for a small fee), then sell them on the market. Covering then means, that you repurchase those stocks later and return them to the lender. When the stock prises fall in the meantime, you must pay less to repurchase the stocks than you got from selling them before, so you've made a profit. If the stock rises however, you have to pay more to buy it back and since it can theoretically rise infinitely much, losses are potentially infinite. Also, since the lending fee is the only thing you have to pay upfront and it's usually very small, you can lend way more stocks than you could'ce purchased, which means that you can profit or lose really much. Mathematically, shorting a stock is aquivalent to owning a negative amount of than stock. See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_%28finance%29

What do you mean by out of the money puts?
Gabriel Echavarria (1 month ago)
Can somebody explain this s*** in English. Call out, shorts, all this terminology got me f***** up
The Boys (2 months ago)
So basically during a crash stocks prices will go down therefore I should buy them and eventually they will go up once the crash is over. Correct me if I’m wrong I’m pretty young
Miguel Vargas (1 month ago)
Buy "puts" in option trading; with a far out expiration date. Once the there is a turn around (up trend) buy stocks, and "call" options set out for months. Good luck!

Recession was just 10 years ago and like 10 years ago interest rates hit 0. Sure you could short the auto makers and home buyers but for how long? The Fed will act fast bring rates to 0 with regulations already in place, just help stimulate the economy. I agree with you but as far as "AMAZING" earnings potential goes... you are pretty much saying the Fed won't learn from a mistake which again, just 10 years ago.

Do you think now, October 2018, would be a good time to implement these measures?

Im still kind of confused on buying puts and stuff, can anyone give me a specific example of shorting a stock in a recession??
myhister (6 months ago)
You seem to assume you can time things, like when a recession would start and end..."as soon as I feel things turning around, I'll cover my shorts". Good luck with that!

Shorting is not a good idea, in my opinion. You never know when the market will turn up. In the long run, the stock market has always gone up. When you short, you could lose a lot of money. In a recession, options include cash, money market, and short term bonds.
Michael Li (11 months ago)

Anybody that tells you to buy gold or silver etf's is an idiot. There are thousands of paper claims to one ounce of gold. You wonder why someone would buy a fraudulent etf when they could buy the physical metal.

What does "short" the automakers mean?
Digital Apex (10 hours ago)
It means you're basically betting against the company's shares. Like he said in the video, it's a smart option to short the auto companies and bet that their stocks will depreciate. Another person would call your bet. It has a lot of risks involved, but you easily mitigate that because who's going to buy a brand new F150 or Silverado during a recession? Edit: He also goes more into depth about shorting and what you should or shouldn't do when you decide to short companies in his other videos.

you have fantastic content, and no one cares about your camera quality, however, if you look at buying new equipment like investing in a business, I think that buying a really good mic would help you a lot, and pay for itself very easily in terms of channel growth. I mean look at the margins if JeV (youtube channel). He films on his phone but has a very nice mic and gets like 5 grand per video! Please consider this I love your content.

GLD is a derivative. You need physical gold in a vault service provider. There can easily be a run on the gold commodity markets. There is like 800 contracts per 1 unit of actual physical gold. The derivative market will blow up soon.

For your #6 both expecting recession and as of now, I think we should have a maximum 20% stocks- 80% cash in hand. That 80% can be potentially used to average down and insuring ourselves against systematic risk. It kind of reminds me of Blackjack, where Wall Street is the dealer and we are all the players... If the dealer is hot, back away and bet small on a couple shares of "blue chip" stocks with dividends to test the water here and there... Then, one day when the dealer busts, buy MORE shares of those good stocks!!!

since watching your videos I've begun to understand how to invest in stock and also understand in very small tidbits how the stock market works. however i'm not too sure how money is made ............. and you get to utilize it. i understand that you have to have an online brokerage to get started but don't you need money to start? man how life is sometimes unfair had i had this knowledge of stocks i would have invested when i was working a year ago (currently unemployed a year now)#recession ........... i really want to start this thing but i got no borrowers (maxed out) no salary nothing............ so how can someone like me get started............? P.s. WHat online brokerage do you use?

DeWayne Williams (2 years ago)
Nice video i here alot of trader talk about how much money could be made in a recession so much that you almost hope for 1. Lol that sounds terrible but honest truth is those who neglect to think about and plan for these things will be the ones that get hurt the most. Gotta have a plan for your Financial future. Simple as that
Ann Marie Deas Trione (2 years ago)
Could you do a video on the nuts and bolts of allocation and a strategy for moving money in different market conditions? When to sell in order to buy In #6 you recommend having 30% in cash during a recession to use for investments, purchase calls and puts, etc. Are you indicating you sold stock prior to or during the recession to create this cash flow or did you already have a % of stock available in your portfolio? It can be confusing in my beginning stage of investing education to understand where money is coming from to invest for skilled experienced investors. I am eager to learn, yet I am in a position where my monthly investment from salary is low, my portfolio is mostly already invested and isn't yet producing high dividends. Trying to create a solid strategy. Thanks!
Victor Funk (2 years ago)
Sounds like you're on the right track... It can take many years before your portfolio is self-feeding, but at that point, you can divert your discretionary contribution money to cash hoards for opportunistic buys... Basically just keep doing what you are doing... You're hopefully only investing in Low beta, dividend paying stocks, yeah...?

Shivang Agrawal (1 year ago)
Thanks 🤘
Domi Nick (1 year ago)
Shivang Agrawal Tesla is an exceptional company in the automobile industry especially also because they are not only concentrated on cars but have other products, too. Furthermore, their biggest customer based are pretty wealthy customers who are less likely to get hit during a recession. It is not easy to predict what Tesla's stock would be doing as they are very different to other car manufacturers.

What do you mean by "SHORT" in this context?
Eric Clements (2 years ago)
when you short a position, you basically bet that the stock will decline. another investor will bet that the stock goes up, and call your bet, and so the farther the stock drops, the greater your profits. It has risks though.

15MinutesofChaos (1 year ago)
I was actually going to comment on how the thumbnail grabbed my attention. It's goofy sure, but it makes learning fun when you sent the tone.
Dee Brizzy (2 years ago)
How do you calculate how much percent the stock market goes up and down by & how much you make or lose from that percent? Sorry still trying to learn about the stock market and you always talk about percentages in your videos.
Dee Brizzy (2 years ago)
Thank you so much, this helped a lot!
Syed Ahmed (2 years ago)
Its simple don't worry. Suppose you bought a stock for $1 and its price goes up to $2, then that means you made a 100% profit since that $1 got doubled. Similarly, if you bought a stock at $3 and it goes to $6, then you made again a 100% profit. A quick formula to calculate is: (Current price of the stock minus Price at which you bought the stock)/Price at which you bought the stock Multiply this^ by 100 and you will get the PERCENTAGE gain or (loss) on the stock. Now coming to another final example: If you bought a stock at $12 and price goes up to $18, then (18-12)/12 *100=50%. <---- you made a 50% GAIN on the stock If you bought a stock at $12 and price goes down to $10, then (10-12)/12*100= (16.7%). <---- you made a 16.7% LOSS on the stock Hope that makes it clear for you

Finance guy (2 years ago)
You officially have a hater. I clicked on this video less than 1 minute after it was released and already 3 thumbs down. What they don't realize is by thumbing down or up the video, that raises the video in YouTube rankings since YouTube sees it as a controversial video, thus it raises your video in the rankings. Someone thinks they are hurting you but they are actually helping you lmao 😂
xele fonte (7 days ago)
Finance Guy, I was one of the dislikes and I can tell you is what you said is absolute bullshit. Dislikes do NOT help a youtuber. It does not raise the video in YouTube rankings - only views does that not even likes. I hate people like yourself that make up shit out of your ass and get 36 idiots to follow this dumbness. Also, I didn’t dislike Financial Education’s video to hurt him. I disliked the content in his video. He focused on not investing in cars and equity stocks. Number 2 and 3 were the exact same thing just like Number 5 and 7 talking about shorting stocks. Really, the only thing right he said was Number 6 to have 30% in cash which probably could be higher. Other than that, this video was a wash. Your entire comment is talking about emotions as shown with your stupid laugh emoticon at the end. This makes you an idiot. Meanwhile, I’m talking about the financial content to this video. You can focus on likes because you’re stupid. Me...I’d rather try to learn something which I did not find in this video.
ClassicRaids (2 years ago)
CharryNevZona the good ole days😜 I think his first videos are funny as crap to watch
DevinDoggy (2 years ago)
That is actually one of the ways Jeremy's channel blew up so big. Back on Halloween he released his "3 stocks he was buying video" for November and someone went in on like 40 youtube accounts immediately after it was released and they hit thumbs down massively within the first hour. A bunch of people also thumbed it up so youtube recommended it like crazy! It was his first video ever that got over 10,000 views I believe. Anyone else around long enough to remember this?? He had like 5,000 subscribers back then
